A photography project with the children living in the city of Sderot
The Community Outreach Unit held a unique workshop for 6th grade students in "Alon Mada'aim" school in Sderot. The cooperation between the school and NATAL has been very successful, as both teachers and students received guidance and coping tools from the staff. The children received a workshop on looking inside and outside on their daily surrounding through art. At first they introduced themselves by pictures which they chose, they spoke about their feelings using the image and colures of the pictures. Then they described a meaningful past or present experience by creating something (picture, sculpture) from different materials which they received. Three well known journalism photographers joined the workshops: Yoav Galay, Uriel Sinay and Ronen Zvulun. The children were divided to 3 groups, they received short guidance regarding the use of the camera and then they started to take pictures.
This workshop was initiated by NATAL's following its involvement in the “Local Testimony” Exhibition 2007 which dealt, among other issues, with the topic of Sderot in the news category. NATAL exhibited the products of the project in the opening event and through the entire month in which the 2007 World Press Photo Exhibition and the Local Testimony Exhibition was exhibited in Dizengoff Cenetr.
