Helping Sderot's residents |
"I wander around in the streets of the city lost interest in just about everything I feel suffocated simply can’t take it anymore”.
(An 8 year old from Sderot, who is a pupil in the local Alon School for Science)
During the last 2 years NATAL's Community Outreach Unit has been assisting the residents of Sderot and the Communities Surrounding Gaza by equipping them with tools to cope with the ongoing threat of Qassam rockets. Since May 2007, when the security situation in Sderot has deteriorated, NATAL’s professionals have been working incessantly night to help the traumatized residents of the city: workshops and trainings were given to the welfare workers; workshops and guidance were given to national service girls, elderly residents and paraprofessional workers who treat them, day-care workers; residents were encouraged to talik and share their feelings and fears during and after Qassam attacks; individual and family treatments were given in improvised clinics to those who were evacuated to FIDF facilities during the summer of 2007; workshops for Ethiopian immigrants; "The mobile unit"- a unique project in which NATAL’s professionals treat traumatized families in the comfort of their homes.
