Multidisciplinary Trauma Studies Center

In 2007 NATAL launched the Multidisciplinary Trauma Studies Center in response to professionals' preparedness needs for dealing with situations of psychological crisis and trauma in emergency and disaster situations.

Research conducted in Israel during these past few years has indicated that up to 10% of the population in Israel is suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a result of war or terror attacks. The symptoms are diverse and range from depression, ongoing anxiety and acute dysfunction. Therefore there is a pressing need for mental health professionals to be well trained to treat individuals with PTSD.

Unique Study Program

NATALinitiated the Multidisciplinary Trauma Studies Center in 2007, which is the first study program of its kind in Israel to train professionals  specifically in the treatment of trauma. Accredited by the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University, the study program deals with both the theoretical and the practical aspects of treating trauma in general, and national psycho-trauma in particular.

We have now been added to the list of institutions recognized nationally for professional certification programs.

Training Mental Health Professionals

The school has trained over 100 mental health professionals each with at least a Bachelor's degree and practical experience working in a professional field including social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, art therapists, educational consultants, criminologists and occupational therapists. The program is taught by distinguished experts in the fields of trauma and emergency, and many graduates have already gone on to treat patients suffering from trauma.

Learning About Different Types of Trauma

The program deals with many different aspects of trauma including group intervention in emergency and disaster situations, dealing with mourning and bereavement, secondary trauma, telephone intervention for trauma victims, pharmaceutical treatments and population evacuation, among many others.

Strengthening the Resiliency of Society

Through training professionals, the school is helping to improve social and psychological services provided to those in need and helping to strengthen the resiliency of Israeli society as a whole.
